Addiction Treatment

Hypnotherapy can be used effectively as part of a treatment or cessation program for many kinds of addictions, ranging from smoking to alcohol to drugs, and also overeating, gambling, sexual urges, and so forth. Specifically, hypnosis can be used to reinforce behavioural changes sought by those seeking to break their addictions.

Before hypnotherapy will be considered as a treatment option, the individual must want to give-up their habit. During hypnosis the therapist can help the individual gain control over their life in many ways. They can help them set out goals and targets, can suggest ways in which behaviour can be modified by proposing ways in which existing practices are carried out and ways in which targets can be met.

Any triggers for relapse can be identified and avoidance techniques explored.

Positivity and the ability to succeed can be reinforced as can motivational techniques, body-image and self-control. The psychological and emotional issues surrounding the addiction can be addressed, such as in nicotine and cannabis abuse. Many therapists will provide exercises to practice at home with the aim of inducing self-hypnosis and increase self-control. By having positive thoughts, definite goals and a support network, success is more likely than by trying without an aid of some sort.

Through the years we have helped dozens of people from all walks of life stop using cocaine. Some had been occasional recreational users, some had got themselves in a really bad way and had lost their job, spouse and children as a result of their excesses. However, it often surprises people how quickly they can put an end to their cocaine addiction, sometimes in one session, more often in two or three. Please note that although we do tend to have a high level of success the work is not 100% guaranteed as there are occasions when what we do does not stop the habit.

How will you get me to stop using cocaine? Well, the first thing is that you have to want to stop. Presumably, you are reading this because you want to end addiction to cocaine, and you have reached the point where you have said to yourself 'enough is enough'. You may have said that to yourself before, though, on many occasions, and have found yourself drawn back into the habit by friends, or at a party, or simply from a desire to re-experience that rush.

Those we have seen who had taken massive amounts of cocaine over sustained periods, though, had stopped experiencing any kind of high whatsoever.

By utilising hypnotherapy we aim to rapidly recondition the automated patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour that have resulted in the addiction to using cocaine. Unlike many other forms of therapy which seek to discover the causes and meanings of the behaviour, our approach is to tackle and recondition the sequences of thinking directly because, however the behaviour began, it has become a habit. A big habit maybe, but still just a habit.

Hypnotherapy can be a valuable component of a drug or alcohol rehab program, as it effectively supports the learning of new attitudes and behaviours.
